Unless a skill outright states “you are the best in the world” at a skill it grants, Jumper tends to start at the low end of ‘master’ and has to finish assimilating a skill to become a true master at it. Skills aren’t (quite) mastered instantly. Each jump will have its own quest objectives, but writing awards are assessed only once for each chapter regardless of the number of jumps chained within it. When doing so, all points, drawbacks, and allowances kick in twice. When it makes sense, jumps may be combined. This also, generally, means that points can’t be claimed for “extended stay” drawbacks (though they may still be allowed). Attempting to delay completing victory conditions in order to extend the jump will have unfortunate consequences. This might be the balance of ten years or it might be something else. Instead, once all of a jump’s ‘victory conditions’ have been fulfilled, a grace period begins during which the Jumper may leave the jump at any time. Because the jumper does not select jumps or have setting knowledge or can even directly spend CP, this means that the background, starting location, etc., are selected to make the most entertaining story. If the Jumper can make a death entertaining (as evidenced by word count), it’s just as good for ratings as a success. Because the primary reward for the jumps is the SP and short jumps earn fewer SP, this is inherently undesirable. Instead, the jump ends immediately with all CP intact. A "chapter" is still a single jump, but it may be posted as multiple parts.ĭeath does not end the chain. EDIT: As of chapter 5, this is no longer true for posting purposes. There won’t be Supplemental chapters this time as those become a pain for accounting if I’m doing the ‘word count’ thing. When jumps are combined, they’ll still end up as one chapter in most cases. Exceptions may be made when it is particularly appropriate, but I’m trying to stick to one jump per chapter. It can be a very long chapter, if need be, but it will still only be one chapter.
